Museum Management system that covers Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage
The term ‘cultural heritage’ has not always meant the same thing.
Recent decades have seen the concept of heritage—much like that of
culture— undergoing a profound change. Having at one time referred
exclusively to the monumental remains of cultures, heritage as a
concept has gradually come to include new categories such as the
intangible, ethnographic or industrial heritage. A noteworthy effort
was subsequently made to extend the conceptualization and description
of the intangible heritage. This is due to the fact that closer
attention is now being paid to humankind, the dramatic arts, languages
and traditional music, as well as to the informational, spiritual and
philosophical systems upon which creations are based. The concept of
heritage in our time accordingly is an open one, reflecting living
culture every bit as much as that of the past
MuseumD-System® 1999
'MuseumD-System'® is the first Museum Management system that covers Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage in one relational database (since 2006).
It enables digital inventory of all types of Cultural Heritage to:
• Give Curators and General Public greater insight into each other's culture
• Provide wider and contextualized information for scholarly and scientific research
• Support the fight against illicit trafficking and misappropriation of heritage objects
• Support and facilitate exhibition development and exchange
• Result in proper registration and management of heritage resources
Museum standards
'MuseumD-System'® is a generic system based on international museum standards.
It is built on a 'parent' object registration format providing approximately 200 fields and thesauri.
Sub-classes (or sub-collections) are distilled or extracted from this 'Parent' Object form as needed.
Sub-collection formats are provided with their own standard drop-down lists and thesauri. This results in user-friendly formats, easily accessible to each sub-collection manager.
Benefits
Collection managers can develop their own specific collection type format.
Contrary to other systems, 'MuseumD-System'® is malleable and easy to adapt to specific individual needs.
